The cannes festival na,ed until 2002 as the international film festival held in cannes france. Founded in 1946 tue invitation only festival is held annually at palias des festivals et des congres.

There origin runs as far as 1932 when jean zay the french minister of national education on proposal historian phillipe erlanger and with the support of British and Americans set up an international cinematography festival. The first festival was planned for 1939 cannes was selected as the location but the funding and organisations were slow due to world war 2.....but here we are 100s of years later celebrating film industry
